Day 21: Closer Still

21/21 Days of Prayer

READ:

EPHESIANS 6:12-13 (NIV)

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”

I am so proud of you for taking these 21 days to seek God. My prayer is that you are closer to God now than when you started this 21 day journey. Before we end this time I want to encourage you to keep standing in faith. Ephesians says “Having done all to stand, stand”. Keep standing in faith. If you haven’t seen the breakthrough, gotten the promotion, or seen the relationship restored, keep standing in faith.

Let’s believe God that even in this season we will see the miraculous in our lives.

Don’t quit on your dreams and keep pursuing your call. God has amazing things in store for you this year…. Keep standing!

PRAY:

Jesus, thank you that when I draw near to you, you draw near to me. Thank you for growing my faith in this 21 day journey. Help me to stand in faith this year and to pray big prayers. Use me to reach people with the love of Jesus and give me wisdom to make wise decisions. Lead me and guide me in all that I do. Lord, I surrender this year to you. Amen.

Day 20: Better Together

20/21 Days of Prayer

READ:

HEBREWS 10:24-25 (NIV)

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

I love church! Not because I’m a pastor or because I was raised by a pastor. I love church because of the difference it’s made in my life. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve felt like the pastor is preaching right to me. I can’t tell you how many times in worship God has strengthened my faith and restored my hope.

There is something powerful about people coming together to lift up the name of Jesus that changes us for the better.

These days, coming together might just mean logging into facebook and watching live with fellow believers! We live in a society that never stops, so there’s something special about setting apart time just to get with other Christians to grow your faith. God wants to speak to you through His word. Plug in and stay planted and watch what God does in your life.

PRAY:

Jesus, thank you for giving me a church home. Thank you for encouraging, challenging me, and growing me through your word. Thank you for friends that encourage me in my journey of faith. Amen

Day 19: Simple Gospel

19/21 Days of Prayer

READ:

MATTHEW 5:14-16 (NIV)

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

It’s amazing to me that Jesus left the sharing of the gospel message in our hands. He could have used an angel or at least someone more qualified to do the job, but He gave the job to us. We often make it way more complicated than it has to be. You don’t have to stand up on a street corner with a megaphone and preach John 3:16 every day. Most of the time it’s something as simple as an invite to church, a note letting someone know you are praying for them, or a hug to let them know they are loved. We will have people come into church and give their lives to Jesus because our parking lot team at the church waved at them as they were passing by! That’s right, a wave!! My point is, just let your light shine. Share your story, give that hug, pick someone up for church.

We are a light in the darkness.

PRAY:

Jesus, help my light shine today. Put people in my path that need to know about your love, your grace, and your mercy. Give me boldness to share my story and invite others to church. Amen.

Day 18: Treasure

18/21 Days of Prayer

READ:

MATTHEW 6:21 (NIV)

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

You can tell a lot about a person by seeing what they spend their money on. It gives you a glimpse into their passions. I have a cousin that spends thousands of dollars every year on a custom made rifle. We all have things we like to buy and there is nothing wrong with that. The old preacher saying is “it’s okay to have things just don’t let things have you.” Sometimes I get asked why God speaks about giving in the Bible so much. The truth is, God doesn’t need your money. After all, His streets are paved with gold! But God is after your heart.

God knows that your money and your heart are tied together and His desire has and always will be for your heart.

Let me ask you, does your money, your schedule, and your priorities show that God is the #1 priority in your life? I certainly can’t answer that question for you. I can only ask the question. Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit if there is any area of your life you need to surrender to Him.

PRAY:

Jesus, I surrender all of my life to you. I hold nothing back at all. Amen.

Day 17: Marathon

17/21 Days of Prayer

READ:

ROMANS 6:11 (NKJV)

“Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Over and over we see Paul talking about being dead to sin or crucifying his flesh daily. Some people are confused by these scriptures. What Paul is trying to tell us is that your flesh (natural man) will lead you down the wrong path if you let it. As Christians we have to make a choice not to be led by what our flesh wants but to be led by what our spirit needs. Every time you say “no” to your flesh your spirit man gets a little stronger. I don’t think we ever fully arrive but a life of Christianity is a marathon not a sprint. When your flesh gets the best of you ask for forgiveness and move on! While you’re moving on think about how far you’ve come. Chances are you used to struggle in that area a lot more.

You haven’t arrived but you are so much closer than you were when you started.

PRAY:

Jesus, thank you for giving me strength to resist temptation. Thank you for never giving up on me and for continuing to transform me. Help me to live a life that honors you. Amen.

Day 16: Forgiven

16/21 Days of Prayer

READ:

EPHESIANS 1:7 (NKJV)

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace”

You are forgiven. No, really I want you to hear that again…. You are forgiven. When you first become a Christian it is one of the most freeing things to find out about God’s grace, but something begins to happen the longer we are Christians. We start thinking that we have to earn God’s forgiveness. When we mess up, we beat ourselves up because we should know better by now. The longer we are Christians we forget that forgiveness doesn’t come because we are good but because Jesus is good. Stop beating yourself up for the mistake you made last night, last week, or ten years ago.

After all, you are forgiven.

PRAY:

Jesus, thank you for your grace and your mercy. Thank you for forgiving me when I mess up. Today I ask you to forgive me for ______________________ and I receive your forgiveness now. Amen.
